Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) European Compliance Statement

The L.S. Starrett Company has evaluated the products offered regarding their status under Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) EC No 1907/2006 when products are put on the market in the European Area (EEA). The L.S. Starrett Co., is a manufacturer of “ARTICLES” to our EU customers (according to ECHA’s guidance for articles, the electronic components shall be considered articles). We do not manufacture “substances” or “preparations” and our articles do not involve the “intentional release of substances” therefore do not require registration under REACH

Section 2.1 of the ECHA guidance document (Requirements) for Substance in articles and defines an “Article” as “an object which during production is given a special shape, surface or design which determines its function to a greater degree than its chemical composition”. Most Starrett products are considered articles under this definition and have been found not to contain Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) as listed on the Candidate List of SVHC at concentrations above 0.1%(w/w).

Section 4.1 of the guidance document covers substances in articles that are (a) intended to be released from articles during normal conditions of use, and (b) the total amount of the substance produced or imported in all articles exceeds 1 ton per year. The articles produced by the L.S. Starrett Co., and covered under this statement do not exceed these limits therefore do not require registration or notification.
