On January 9, 2007, The Travel Channel's “Made In America” premiered a new segment featuring The L.S. Starrett Company. Using material shot on July 5, 2006 at Starrett's Athol, MA world headquarters, host and executive producer John Ratzenberger (Cliff Clavin of “Cheers” fame) highlighted several aspects of the sprawling manufacturing facility.
Currently in its third season, “Made In America” celebrates people, places, and products that are uniquely American. The show profiles men and women who work with their hands, utilizing highly developed skills and craftsmanship to make exceptional products in America's factories and workshops. “Made In America” is presented in an informative, entertaining format, driven by Mr. Ratzenberger's natural curiosity and enthusiasm. Mr. Ratzenberger (a former carpenter and proud owner of a Starrett square) and his entourage spent a day at Starrett filming, touring the plant and interviewing employees, while learning and observing tool manufacturing processes for calipers, squares, indicators, special gages and many other precision measuring tools. He also enjoyed trying his hand at tool making. Each year approximately 1,000 companies vie to be included on the show, but only about 40 are chosen. Mr. Ratzenberger chose Starrett based on their 125-year American tool making heritage, their innovative, high quality products and skilled, dedicated workforce. Starrett is the last remaining full-line precision tool company manufacturing, selling, and servicing products in the United States. The Starrett segment will air several more times through about June 2007 on The Travel Channel's “Made In America.” Check your local listings for day and time. | |
