| Over a period of six years, Starrett focused major resources into the development of a new sawing technology. Our research effort involved the development and installation of state-of-the-art equipment for electron beam and laser fusion welding.
As a result of our focus, innovation, and technical expertise, Starrett enters the new millennium with a new technology – Starrett bi-metal unique® Saw Technology. This new technology joins two strips of highspeed steel wires to a backing steel in a solid phase, using the principle of solid-state diffusion bonding.
bi-metal unique® technology is totally different from traditional weld or laser bonding processes that rely on metal diffusion as the union agent at the interface.
170% More Weld Contact Area The proprietary (patent pending) solid-state diffusion process generates 170% more weld contact area compared to the existing bi-metal high-speed steels.
The result is significantly reduced fracture and breakage at the HSS/backing material interface.
Soon after initial use, the teeth develop a groove in the very thin center of backing material at the cutting edge. This alters the blade area engaged in the cut to create Multi-Edge Performance®.
As a result, the cutting stroke produces dual chips that are more easily removed from the cut. For applications utilizing coolant, more of it flows to the cutting surface. This is the Split-Chip Advantage®.
Faster Cuts & Longer Blade Life The result is up to 20% faster cuts and 22% longer blade life than other premium blades – according to a series of recent tests* comparing Unique hacksaw blades against several competing products.
(Lesser value is better) bi-metal unique® Saw Technology is currently available with new lines of hacksaw blades, portable band saw blades, and Unified Shank® Jig Saw Blades. * Cutting tests on 304 stainless steel utilizing the BS1919 Standard that evaluates wear rate and cutting time. The results clearly proved that, compared to four well-known premium blades, Starrett Unique cuts faster and lasts longer.
